General information on how the Alcoholics Anonymous interacts with the public and professional communities.
Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee
Bill W, wrote: Public Information takes many forms - the simple sign outside a meeting place that says A.A. meeting tonight, listing in local telephone directories; distribution of A.A. literature; and radio and television shows using sophisticated media techniques. Whatever the form, it comes down to one drunk carrying the message to another drunk, whether through personal contact or through the use of third parties and the media.
Mission Statement: The PI/CPC Committees exist at the Intergroup level, the Area level and at the GSO level. PI/CPC members inform the public and professionals about what A.A. is and does, as well as, what A.A. is not and does not do.
What We Do:
The PI/CPC Committee at GSO level has distributed Public Service Announcements (PSA) to radio and TV stations around the country.
The PI/CPC Committee at AREA level, has a PI/CPC booth at the New York State Fair
The PI/CPC Committee at our local Intergroup level:
- Is responsible for content of The Rochester Area Intergroup Inc. web site.
- Has created and distributed sign holders for hotels, police stations and hospital emergency rooms. The sign simply; says: Local A.A.Meetings, call (585) 232-6720 or www.rochester-ny-aa.org.
- Has made presentations at Health Fairs, schools, and other facilities.
- Has created a flier: Does Your Doctor Know
- Has ensured our local libraries have a complementary copy of the Big Book.
